Uganda’s Speaker of Parliament Survives Bomb Attack
The speaker of Uganda’s parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, has survived another close call on her life.
According to a report by The Observer, a letter bomb was posted to the parliamentary speaker’s office about two weeks ago.
One of her attendants, identified as Herman Kaboggoza, reportedly opened the parcel and sustained facial injuries as a result of the explosion. Kaboggoza has been admitted to the Mulago Hospital, where he is reportedly responding to treatment.
Officials have kept tight-lipped about the explosion, which allegedly occurred when Kadaga was out of the country.
However, reports have emerged that the Joint Anti-Terrorism Taskforce have opened an investigation into the disturbing incident.
In December 2013, Kadaga survived a similar life threatening incident when her motorcade narrowly escaped an oncoming train.
Speculations are rife among pundits, but authorities are yet to officially pinpoint any suspects.
Tension have increased dramatically in Uganda after supporters of Kadaga, who want her to run for the nation’s 2016 elections, claimed the government is using underhand means to stifle their campaign.
