Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed elected as president of Prosperity Party
The first congress of the ruling Prosperity Party (PP) of Ethiopia has elected Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed as president of the party.
The congress also elected Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonnen and former speaker of the House of Federation Adam Farah as its vice presidents.
Accordingly, Abiy Ahmed will be Prime Minister and Demeke and Adem will be Deputy Prime Ministers of Ethiopia for the next five years.
Rumor has it that, Abiy led government was considering introducing a presidential governing system in Ethiopia where Abiy will be serving as the first president of the country after the overthrow of the Derg regime in 1991.
PP’s Public and Foreign Relations Head of the PP, Bikila Hurisa (PhD) said that peace and security is the major priority for the party.
Bikila also noted that members and leaders of the PP have agreed upon the need to work round the clock to address political, social and economic challenges in the country.
According to the Head, the people of Tigray are facing difficult situation caused by hostile acts of the terrorist TPLF.
The Prosperity Party will be harnessing all peace mechanisms to bring an end to the TPLF inflicted catastrophic situation in the region and help the people return to normal life.

Meanwhile, the Tigrayan forces are advancing to Sekota town of Amhara region in a fresh offensive on Saturday.
They are about 20 kilometers away from the town where the national army and allied forces are stationed but not involved in counter offensives.
